What are S.M.A.R.T. Goals and How You Should Use Them?

Everyone has something they want or need to get done in their life, but many struggle to accomplish what they set out to do. S.M.A.R.T. goals have been shown to greatly increase the chance of actually meeting your goals more than any other system. In order to use this powerful goal setting method, you need to understand not only what S.M.A.R.T. goals are, but also how to use them effectively.

What are S.M.A.R.T. Goals?

The S.M.A.R.T. stands for specific, measurable, actionable, realistic and timely. Any goal that fulfills these five criteria can be achieved more easily than one that does not. Goal setting requires careful planning of your targets.

Specific — Write down exactly what you want to accomplish instead of something general. Set S.M.A.R.T. goals to paint three new watercolors before the end of the month instead of just saying you will paint more.

Measurable — If you cannot measure your progress, how will you know when you meet your goal? A goal to write 1000 words each day can be measured to keep you on track.

Attainable — Keep realistic when goal setting. If you make minimum wage, a goal to buy a yacht may not be attainable, but a goal to save $50 per paycheck is. You can revisit the yacht goal later.

Realistic — Ability and willingness to work toward a goal are both important. If you make a goal to get on a minor baseball team but aren’t willing to practice hitting every day, your goal isn’t realistic.

Timely — Deadlines make people work harder, smarter and faster. Goal setting to finish a college degree “someday” will move you no closer to your S.M.A.R.T. goals. Saying you will do it in two years gives you motivation to work hard to get there on time.

Goal setting requires specific criteria if you wish to improve the chances of you achieving everything you want in life. S.M.A.R.T goals help you create goals that are specific, measurable, attainable, realistic and timely. These traits turn a “maybe, someday” into a “goal achieved!”

Fear..it is not all it is cracked up to be.

Fear, F**k Everything And Run, False Evidence Appearing Real. No matter how you slice it, it is the biggest demotivator people have.

I am afraid I will not make it in this business, I fear what everyone will say about my new occupation, I fear I will be a laughing stock of my friends. How do we get around this? We have all heard the absence of fear is faith, and both cannot exist in the same place. One great way I have found around this is commitment to massive action. This is not my first and foremost thought at any time, but the best of the thoughts that hopefully I bring to mind. It is the one that works, on a pragmatic scale.

As I write the I am going to speak to a dozen men in a detox facility here in Orlando. Sharing my experience strength and hope as a fellow in recovery. I have done this a few times before, and I have always gotten more from it than I feel I have put in. But I try to be the person I would like to see if I was in the detox, humble, sincere and compassionate. This is the least the men (and women) in recovery deserve.

The beautiful thing about all this is that these experiences, as little as they are that seem so big and gnarly, build the character it takes to be a better leader and in my case a better man as well. Some days it feels like just getting out of bed is an accomplishment, and to many this may be the case. Other days I take on bigger and more comfort zone stretching experiences, these are the ones we need to cultivate.

Start little, act courageously, finish big. My start little is writing this post despite my concerns about how it is taken, doing it anyway, and doing the same next post.

What have you been putting off in your business that has been keeping you from you goals? Talking to that mentor, being that mentor, starting a blog or vlog? Share your stories with me so we can celebrate together. Be the person you wish to see in your life.

Free secret on how to get noticed now and increase your traffic for your website

I have found an easy way to receive more traffic to my personal branding site at no cost to me. If you frequent forums and other sites that let you post comments or have a signature to your post, this method is for you.

Most sites you and I may visit need a login name as well as a password. I have found by making my login name my branding site website address as well, I can get those extra traffic hits each day. So, why make you login name your personal branding site name? i.e. JayCouture.com = login. The fact of the matter is that people wish to connect with people first and foremost, as they are not interested in what you do, what new plan you are a part of or how much money that can be made joining team “X” without getting to know you personally. This is the power of a branding site.

Can you remember the last time you went out to eat at a nice restaurant, or rented a movie or read a good book? I bet a dime to a doughnut at least one of those was due to a recommendation from a friend or significant other. People don’t want to be sold, they want solutions to problems. And the best way to be the solution provider to your home business is to be someone they trust or who’s name has social proof (fancy word for being well known in social marketing). One way to provide this is to let them know who you are and what you are all about with a personal branding website.

How many times after reading a great article on a forum, looked at the available authors personal info to see what he or she is all about? If you are like me this is commonplace to see if this is someone I wish to put on my shortlist of value driven information. I make my login name my website address JayCouture.com and by tracking the traffic with a bit.ly or pretty links url I can gauge how much traffic is flowing to my site through this method.

In doing this I can see which forums are giving me the most traffic and which ones I should not waste my time marketing my brand name. Did you click on my login name above to see who I was? If you did or were thinking about it you can see the power of this type of forum marketing and use it for other sites relevant to your web-page be it personal or business.

Feel free to stop by my site for more free tips and tricks to market yourself as well as promoting yourself on my personal branding page. Until then…keep living the dream! 🙂

Forum Marketing Made Easy as 1 2 3

Success Leaves Clues

I would like to quote one of my favorite authors and a world renown speaker Anthony Robbins. He is well known for his ability to create positive change in the life of individuals. One recommendation he stresses is doing the same thing as those you wish to be like, and you can have the same successes they do.  If you want an award winning cake, take the recipe of a master baker and do exactly what he does and you will get the same results.

You may be thinking, “What in the heck does this have to do with me?”  Well, many of us who are not yet gifted in writing excellent ad copy or a sales “call to action” can benefit from the masters of this skill set.  For example, go to any forum you are a member of, scroll down a thread and look at each of the signatures. Which ones command your attention to click on and which ones don’t? If there are any that make you wish to click on the link, write them down. These are usually the ones that others will click on too.

There is no need to plagiarize but you can either use the same type of signature in your posts or change it a bit to make sure you are original as possible. For example, I used one I found on a forum that questioned my right to click on a link due to not being a part of his membership club. It was obvious the membership was suggestive only, and only there to tempt me to click, and of course I clicked the link, wondering what the secret was and just out of plain curiosity with a touch of  “you can’t keep me out” or “I wonder what they are trying to keep from me”.

I was so amazed by how quickly I was inclined to click.  I now use a version of this signature and have had my first sale with it for over $300 just by using a passive sales technique. Ka-Pow! The secret of this is the classic sales techinque called the “take away” that presents you with an opportunity, then tells you that you may not have the item or service.

Try it and see for yourself.
